Kamala Harris Leads Trump in Polls Ahead of Democratic National Convention
On the eve of the Democratic National Convention, Kamala Harris shows a lead over Donald Trump in recent polls, setting the stage for a pivotal convention.
Opinion polling suggests that Kamala Harris, the Vice President of the United States, is ahead of former President Donald Trump as she gears up for her prominent role at the Democratic National Convention.
Two opinion polls on Sunday revealed that Harris is leading with a margin of three to six percentage points as the convention in Chicago approaches.
An ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll shows that in a two-way race, Harris is leading Trump among registered voters by 49-45 percent and likely voters by 51-45 percent.
Harris is currently leading Trump by 47-44 percent among registered voters and 49-45 percent among likely voters in a competition with Robert F Kennedy, Cornel West, and Jill Stein.
According to a CBS News survey, Harris holds a national lead of three points over Trump with 51-48 percent.
Harris and Trump are deadlocked at 50-50 in the seven pivotal battleground states, namely Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina that can impact the election outcome.
The latest polls indicate that Harris’s recent entry into the race has invigorated Democratic voters and those who lean towards the party. This comes after several months of disappointing poll results for President Joe Biden, who withdrew from seeking re-election last month due to concerns about his ability to serve a second term.
The “Sun Belt” states of Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina, previously heavily leaning towards Trump when Biden was the Democratic nominee, saw Harris in contention according to a New York Times/Siena College poll on Saturday.
Harris conducted multiple campaign events in Pennsylvania, which converted its 20 electoral votes from Trump to Biden in the year 2020 before departing for Chicago on Sunday.
“At a campaign stop in the township of Moon, Harris stated that she regards us as significant underdogs.”
The stories that hold significance, such as US politics, Canada’s multiculturalism and South America’s geopolitical emergence are what we deliver.
“We need to work hard in order to gain the trust of American voters. To achieve this, we are embarking on a bus tour across the country where we will converse with people and hear them out. Our ultimate goal is to earn their votes within the remaining 79 days.”
During a campaign speech in Pennsylvania the previous day, Trump voiced his objections towards Harris on subjects of inflation and her past disapproval of fracking – an industry that enjoys immense popularity within the state. He also proceeded to unleash a barrage of personal attacks.
According to Trump, individuals are often heard saying “Be nice”, but upon hearing her laugh, he perceives it as that of a crazy person and even goes so far as to describe it as the laughter of a lunatic.
Earlier this month, Harris and running mate Minnesota Governor Tim Walz received formal nomination through a roll-call vote. However, the four-day convention starting on Monday is an ideal platform for Democrats to showcase solidarity and generate voter interest.
The convention has lined up several notable Democrats such as Biden, former Presidents Clinton and Obama, ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and previous First Lady Michelle Obama to deliver speeches.
Despite Democrats rapidly uniting behind Harris, the Democratic candidate may encounter protests regarding the Biden administration’s endorsement of the conflict in Gaza during the convention.
A group of Democratic delegates who go by the name “Delegates Against Genocide” have declared their intention to urge for a halt on U.S. weapons trade with Israel during the convention.
Last month, the draft platform of the Democrats proposed an instant cessation in war without highlighting the number of Palestinian casualties or urging a stoppage in US military supply to Israel.
