Vice President Kamala Harris sets a new fundraising record, amassing $540 million following her appearance at the Democratic National Convention, boosting her campaign momentum.
Kamala Harris, the Vice President of the United States, has managed to secure a sum of $540 million within just over a month since she began running for presidency. Her campaign reported a significant spike in donations during last week’s Democratic National Convention.
According to a memo from Jen O’Malley Dillon, Harris’s campaign manager, the total amount raised for her candidacy was $540 million. This figure includes an additional $82 million that came in during convention week as a clear indication of strong Democratic support and excitement.
In a memo released by the campaign on Sunday, O’Malley Dillon stated that we crossed the $500 million mark right before Vice President Harris’ acceptance speech on Thursday night.
Right after her speech, our fundraising hour was the best it had been since launch day.
She added that this is the highest amount ever raised by any presidential campaign in this timeframe.
During the convention week, O’Malley Dillon cited that almost a third of donations were from individuals contributing for the first time. Among these newcomers, 20% comprised young voters while women made up two-thirds – both groups viewed by Harris’ campaign as vital constituencies to secure in order to succeed in November.
According to the Harris campaign, there has been a significant increase in volunteer backing for the vice president. In just one week of convention activities, supporters pledged nearly 200,000 shifts towards assisting with campaign efforts.

On July 21st, Harris was nominated as a presidential candidate following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw under pressure from fellow Democrats. His age and performance in the June 27th debate against Republican opponent Donald Trump were sources of concern.
The Harris campaign’s momentum has caused Trump to be defensive and struggle with maintaining media focus.
At present, Harris’ campaign seems to have surpassed Trump’s in terms of fundraising despite his well-established prowess in the field.
Earlier this month, it was announced by Trump’s campaign and its affiliated groups that they gathered $138.7 million in July; however, Harris managed to outdo them with the amount raised just within a week of her White House bid launch. As for cash on hand at the start of August, Trump’s campaign stated possessing $327 million.
This week, Harris and her running mate for vice president, Tim Walz, are embarking on a bus tour throughout Georgia to generate backing in the pivotal state of November 5 election as they campaign towards winning the White House.
