Kalu Explains How ECOWAS Parliament Can Thrive

Central to the work of ECOWAS Parliament’s Joint Committee, as identified by House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, are accountability, credibility and transparency.

While attending the committee’s delocalized meeting, he addressed the audience in Abidjan, located in Ivory Coast.

The parliament’s Joint Committee on Administration, Finance, Budget, Public Accounts, Macroeconomic Policy and Economic Research is chaired by Kalu.

According to the lawmaker, the financial committees within the joint committee aim to investigate and assess the monetary stability of parliament.

What specific roles should we assume in order to increase transparency, demonstrate integrity, and reinforce accountability?

As you are aware, it is an institution that continues to develop. It has specific transparency, accountability and credibility systems intended to reach maturity.

He said that we are dissecting the structures as they exist.

“Priority should be given to placing the integrity scale at the topmost position while scoring high for uplifting our community,” he emphasized.

Setting the transparency and accountability scales to a high score will boost our credibility, leading to increased support.

According to Kalu, the parliament will prevent any deficiencies that may compromise transparency, accountability, and credibility.

He inquired, “Are there any non-existent items? How can we enhance them?” He then stated that by the end of the session, they would create a solution that benefitted all subcommittees.
