The Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemicals Company Limited, or KRPC, is now working on a quick-fix project. According to Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), this project will be completed by the end of 2024.

While evaluating the state of work on the ongoing quick-fix project of the Kaduna refinery on Saturday, the Minister made this disclosure during an inspection trip of the facility and petrochemicals.

Given the “significant level of progress” he saw during the excursion, Lokpobiri expressed confidence that the refinery will be restored by the end of 2024.

The Minister promised the Federal Government’s assistance in guaranteeing the project’s prompt completion and noted that he would keep holding important parties responsible for the nation’s refineries’ repair.

The Minister claims that the refinery must be restarted immediately in order to support both the country’s economic growth and energy security, both of which are prerequisites for sustained development.

The Minister was informed earlier by Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., that the fuel plant at the refinery will be delivered by the end of 2024.

All hands are on deck to restart the refinery, according to Kyari, who emphasised that the contractor has already mobilised to the location and that the necessary equipment is on hand for the urgent repairs.

“We have great confidence in our ability to secure the necessary funding to see this through to completion and, in the end, resume providing value to Nigerians.” Our objective is to quickly restore the plant to produce 60,000 barrels per day so that we can start making money from it and continue to expand the refinery to reach its full potential. This will also align with the pipeline’s Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) completion, ensuring a dependable pipeline delivery infrastructure, according to the GCEO.

The 14th Refineries Rehabilitation Steering Committee Meeting was held prior to the inspection tour, and NNPC Limited’s Executive Vice Presidents for Downstream and Upstream, Adedapo Segun and Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, as well as the Managing Directors of the three refineries and numerous other Committee members were present.
