The Kaduna State Government has announced restrictions on movement, citing security concerns as the reason for the new measures. Residents are urged to comply with the directives to ensure public safety.
In preparation for the councillorship and chairmanship elections in 255 Wards and 23 Local Government Councils scheduled for Saturday, October 19, 2024, the Kaduna State Security Council has implemented a movement restriction across the entire state from 6 AM to 7 PM on that day.
A statement released on Friday by Samuel Aruwan, the Overseeing Commissioner of the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, indicated that this initiative aims to guarantee peaceful and orderly conduct during the elections.
This notice mandates that all vehicular traffic, commercial ventures, and any activities potentially disrupting law and order must halt during the restriction period from 6am to 7pm on Saturday.
Only individuals carrying out essential responsibilities are exempt from this restriction and may travel during the specified period, provided they have appropriate identification and clearance.
Citizens are therefore encouraged to avoid any actions that might disturb public peace or hinder the smooth running of the elections. Security agencies have been deployed to ensure order and adherence.
The statement urged the public to quickly report any observed actions that jeopardize law and order to security agencies, rather than taking matters into their own hands.
