Four internet scammers were found guilty and given a five-year prison sentence on Monday by Justice N.U. Sadiq of the Kaduna State High Court.
Chinedu Prince Omeka, Adamu Eric Mendos, Daniel Andrew, and Elom Vincent Prince were found guilty on separate counts of impersonation, and they all received one-count convictions.
When the accusations were read to them at the court hearing, they all entered guilty pleas.
Prosecuting attorneys M. Lawal and M. U. Gadaka urged the court to find them guilty in accordance with their pleas.
Elom Vincent Prince received a sentence of three years in prison with the possibility of a N150,000 fine, while the other three defendants were found guilty and sentenced by Justice Sadiq to two years in prison with the possibility of a N150,000 fine.
Omeka was required by the judge to turn over one iPhone 11 to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which is part of the Federal Government of Nigeria. While Prince forfeited one iPhone 6s to the authorities, Mendos forfeited one iPhone 11 as well. Andrew forfeited one iPhone 12 and returned $120 to his victim.
Additionally, the victim’s $50 was to be reimbursed by the EFCC, per the decision.
The prisoners began their voyage to the Correctional Centre when they were detained by agents of the EFCC’s Kaduna Zonal Command for crimes involving the internet in the Kaduna axes of Barnawa, Janruwa, and Unguwan Mai Gero. Later, they faced charges and were found guilty.
