Kaduna Corps Member Killed by Suspected Phone Stealers

The deceased Youth Corper’s close friend said to Channels Television that the perpetrators stabbed her in the chest and then stole her phone.

A group that specialises in phone stealing and other crimes has killed a NYSC volunteer in Kaduna State by hacking him to death.

Grace Chalya Silas, the deceased, was killed on Thursday while out for a morning jog along a route in Kaduna’s Barnawa neighbourhood.

The deceased Grace’s close friend said to Channels Television that the perpetrators stabbed her in the chest before escaping with her phone.

The NYSC management has not yet commented on the incident, but police are looking for the assailants, according to Kaduna State Police Command spokesman Manir Hassan.

“The Commissioner of Police had ordered the Barnawa Divisional Police Officer and operatives to hunt for the killers of the corps member,” he claimed. “This was after an emergency meeting of the top hierarchy of the command.”

“Since the event was reported to the police, Musa Yusuf Garba, the commissioner of police for Kaduna State, called an urgent meeting to discuss it with the command’s highest ranking officials. We have already established contact with the state’s NYSC.

The Barnawa DPO and Area Commander have been instructed by the CP to start looking for the corps member’s killers and apprehending those responsible right away.
