A peaceful demonstration was organized by a group of Christians in Kaduna State, operating under the banner of Christian Solidarity Worldwide Nigeria, to advocate for the immediate release of Leah Sharibu and other schoolchildren who are still being held captive by bandits and terrorists in the northern region of the country.

The protest, which took place at the ECWA Good News Church in Kaduna, was held to mark Leah Sharibu’s 21st birthday and to express disapproval of the government’s perceived inability to rescue the Chibok schoolgirl, who was abducted by Boko Haram militants in Yobe State seven years ago.

Leah Sharibu, along with more than 100 female students from the Government Girls Science and Technical College in Dapchi, was kidnapped by Boko Haram insurgents in 2018, and while the other girls have since been released, Leah remains in captivity, prompting the demonstration in Kaduna State.

The group, led by Reverend Yunusa Nmadu, aimed to raise awareness and urge the government to take more decisive action in securing the release of Leah Sharibu during the peaceful protest in Kaduna State, emphasizing the significance of her 21st birthday and the prolonged duration of her captivity.

1. The imperative need for children to attend school and the necessity for safety within our homes are paramount concerns that have been compromised due to the current state of insecurity. The call for the government to address the escalating crisis and prioritize the protection of its citizens is a plea echoed by many.
2. The dissatisfaction with the prevailing insecurity has led to direct appeals to the President of the country, Bola Tinubu, urging for immediate action to safeguard lives. The alarming rate of fatalities occurring daily is deemed intolerable by the populace, emphasizing the fundamental right to security.
3. The urgency for the government to heed the calls for intervention and take decisive measures to ensure the safety of educational institutions and the well-being of individuals is emphasized. The protection of schools and the citizenry is a duty that falls squarely on the government, and the expectation is for swift and effective action to restore peace and security in the nation.
