Impeachment plot: Ondo Assembly retracts appeal against Aiyedatiwa

The speaker of the Ondo state House of Assembly and others had appealed to the Court of Appeal in Abuja against the Federal High Court’s temporary injunction that had stopped them and others from moving further with the state’s deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa,s planned impeachment. However, the appeal was withdrawn.

The appeal also contested the Federal High Court’s authority to consider Aiyedatiwa’s substantive complaint, which sought to stop the state Assembly from impeaching him as planned.

A three-person appellate court bench headed by Justice Haruna Tsammani dismissed the appeal after requests to abandon it were made by the speaker, Remi Olatubora (SAN), and the attorney for the House of Assembly.

Olatubora informed the court during the motion to withdraw that the parties to the conflict had reached a political resolution and had signed an armistice to that effect.

According to him, his clients gave him the order to drop the appeal so they could enforce their own portion of the ceasefire.
