FCT Minister Nyesom Wike revokes the land allocation for the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja, sparking political controversy.

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has canceled the land allocation for the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) national secretariat in Abuja.

This decision arises in the context of Wike’s ongoing land revocation initiative, which has impacted thousands of properties throughout the FCT due to alleged regulatory non-compliance, such as failure to pay ground rent.

In a letter dated March 13, 2025, titled “Notice of Right of Occupancy with File No: MISC 81346 regarding Plot No: 243 in the Central Area District, Abuja,” Wike issued the revocation notice on Tuesday.

The document was signed by Chijioke Nwankwoeze, Director of Land Administration (FTC).

He claims that the opposition party has neglected to pay the annual ground rents on its property for twenty years, from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025. This is despite numerous reminders published in various national newspapers and electronic media urging them to settle all outstanding bills and ground rent.

The letter stated: “I am instructed to reference the Right of Occupancy given to the PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP), NATIONAL SECRETARIAT, and inform you that the Minister of Federal Capital Territory has revoked your rights, interests, and privileges over Plot No. 243 in Central Area, Cadastral Zone A00, Abuja. This action is taken under his authority as provided by the Land Use Act No. 6 of 1978, Cap. L5 from the Laws of Nigeria Federation 2004.”

The revocation is due to your ongoing violation of the terms and conditions associated with the Right of Occupancy. You have failed to pay annual ground rents on the property for twenty years, from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025. This action follows numerous announcements by the FCT Administration since 2023 in various national newspapers and electronic media urging all plot holders in the Federal Capital Territory to settle any outstanding bills and ground rent obligations.

“Please note that the breaches by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), National Secretariat (MISC 81346) are in violation of Section 28, Subsection 5(a) and (b) of the Land Use Act.”

The minister stated that from now on, the FCTA administration under his leadership will immediately take control of the party secretariat until all outstanding bills are paid.

Additional information will be provided soon…
