The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has released Omoyele Sowore, the #RevolutionNow convener and Nigerian activist who was previously detained at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
According to reports, his detention was connected with a watchlist that had been released by the Department of State Services (DSS).
On Sunday, it was reported that Sowore was apprehended by the Immigration Service upon his arrival in Nigeria. His passport was confiscated and authorities contacted the DSS while they waited for additional directions. After a period of indeterminacy, Sowore was freed and given back his documentation.
Confirming the development, Sowore mentioned that he had been released and his passport along with other belongings had also been returned to him.
Sowore’s impending release had sparked a gathering of supporters from the Take It Back Movement and other activists at the airport.
