Ezenwa Onyewuchi, the federal legislator who serves as the representative for Imo East Senatorial District has changed his loyalty from Labour Party (LP) to All Progressives Congress (APC).
During Tuesday’s plenary session, Senate Majority Leader Michael Opeyemi Bamidele made an announcement about the defection.
Likewise, Salman Idris of the Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency and a member of the House of Representatives switched allegiance from African Democratic Congress (ADC) to APC. This move was communicated via an official letter read by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen during parliamentary proceedings.
Earlier on the same day, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State and chairperson of the APC Progressive Governors’ Forum was granted access to the Senate chamber.

He bore witness as Onyewuchi defected from his political party. This shift increases Imo State’s representation in the APC Senators group to three individuals.
Onyewuchi specified internal conflicts within the Labour Party as his main motive for leaving in his defection letter. Additionally, he stated that following constitutional provisions was a factor in his choice.
After the announcement, Onyewuchi received a warm welcome from APC lawmakers and settled into his seat in the Senate chambers reserved for members of the APC.
