In a sweeping victory, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has won all the chairmanship and councillorship positions in the recently concluded local government elections across Kano State’s 44 local government areas.
The Chairman of the Kano Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), Sani Malumfashi, announced at the commission’s headquarters that the NNPP emerged as the winner in all contested local government areas.
Six political parties took part in the election, which was held peacefully across the state.
During the press briefing, Malumfashi commended the election for being conducted peacefully and highlighted that there were no reports of violence or electoral malfeasance.
“We’re delighted to share that the NNPP has secured victory in all chairmanship and councillorship positions across the 44 local government areas. The election process was transparent and orderly, with no reports of violence,” he stated.
Meanwhile, observers have applauded the election as a major accomplishment for the state, commending the flawless organization and security measures that ensured it proceeded smoothly and without incidents.

The election was eventually held following a series of legal challenges aimed at preventing it.
On Friday, the Kano State High Court authorized the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) to move forward with local government elections, overriding all efforts by political parties to halt the process.
Justice Sanusi Ma’aji, who oversaw the case, declared that KANSIEC is constitutionally authorized to conduct, supervise, and manage local government elections throughout Kano State’s 44 LGAs.
The KANSIEC initiated the case against the All Progressives Congress (APC) along with 13 additional political parties.
On Saturday, our correspondents observed that security at the polling units was provided by local vigilante groups and officials from the Kano Road Transport Agency (Karota).
This followed the announcement by the Kano State Police Command that it would adhere to a court order preventing its involvement in the election.
