The Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) explains that his decision to resign was driven by personal and family considerations, following reports of his departure.
On Saturday evening, Ahmed Abubakar, the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency handed over his resignation letter to President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.
Abubakar revealed the reasons for his departure in a brief meeting, citing personal and family matters as contributing factors to his resignation from office.
Although he had been in the position since 2018, he conveyed appreciation to the President for granting him the opportunity to serve during the initial 15 months of their new administration.
Abubakar stated that he resigned for various reasons, including personal family matters. However, these issues were not too significant and would not affect his friendship with others.
I had a conversation with the President and he comprehended my thoughts completely. I committed to staying resolute in addressing matters related to national security.
After a routine briefing at the Villa, Abubakar stated that he had resigned following his visit with the President.
The interference of state governments in mining activities is being lamented by stakeholders.
“It is customary to brief the President periodically on situations and issues, and today is no different.”
Upon the completion of the briefing, I submitted my resignation which was kindly approved and accepted by Mr. President.
According to him, he expressed his gratitude for the chance granted by the leader’s transformational administration in Nigeria to serve for an uncommonly lengthy duration of 15 months.
In 2018, Abubakar was initially named DG of the NIA by former President Muhammadu Buhari; his tenure was prolonged in December 2021.
More information will be provided soon.
