The explosion in the Bodija area of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Tuesday night, was caused by a suspected explosion of an improvised explosive device (IED), according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

The agency reported that the blast affected more than twenty houses in the vicinity. In a situation report posted on Wednesday, NEMA stated that the casualty figures are currently unknown, and a search and rescue operation is still ongoing.

Various stakeholders, including the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Department of State Services, State Emergency Management Agency, Nigerian Army, Federal and State Fire Service, Nigerian Red Cross, State Ministry of Environment, and Amotekun Corps, were present at the scene. Additional resources are being mobilized to support the ongoing search and rescue operations.

The operation was temporarily suspended to allow responders to refresh, but it will resume at 7:00 am in the morning. Security has been heightened in the area, and efforts are underway to provide further support for the operations. The situation is now under control, and arrangements are being made to ensure a smooth operation.
