The Senate Minority Leader, Senator Simon Mwadkwon, who represents Plateau North-Senatorial District in the National Assembly, had his victory declared invalid by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
The three-person panel presided over by Justice Daudu Williams ruled unanimously that Mwadkwon was not legitimately nominated by the PDP.
The panel declared that, in their opinion, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) did not completely comply with court directives because 12 Local Government Areas (LGAs) did not attend the congress.

The court also mandated that a rerun be held in 90 days for the Plateau North Senatorial seat.
The court’s ruling was largely influenced by the PDP’s failure to comply with a court order issued by the Plateau State High Court in 2020 requiring it to conduct Congress prior to nominations.
The win of PDP candidate Musa Avia for the seat representing Bassa North in the House of Representatives was also thrown out by the appellate court panel headed by Justice Okon Abang.
