INEC has issued a stern warning to Governor Obaseki and other political actors, urging them not to interfere with the collation process of the Edo election results. Stay updated on the unfolding situation.

At its Benin Head Office, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a strong caution against interference as the tallying of results from Saturday’s Edo State governorship election is about to commence.

Recall that last night, a group of people, including Ajibola Basiru, the All Progressives Congress (APC) national secretary, Dennis Idahosa, the party’s deputy governorship candidate, and others, allegedly demonstrated outside the INEC office in Benin.

“We are concerned about the unauthorized presence and protests by certain political figures and their supporters at our office ahead of the final collation,” said Mohammed Haruna, the National Commissioner of INEC and a member of the Information and Voter Education Committee, in a statement released on Sunday. He denounced the actions. Such conduct is intolerable, and nobody shall be allowed to obstruct the procedure or profit from misbehavior of any kind.

He also underlined the need for unfettered access to collation centers for journalists, observers, and authorized party representatives. In addition, Haruna urged security services to keep up their efforts to guarantee a calm end to the voting process.
