The name of Alhassan Ado Doguwa, the troubled leader of the House of Representatives, has been omitted from the list of election winners by the Independent National Election Commission (INEC).

He had been proclaimed the victor of the Doguwa/Tudunwada constituency election on February 25 by the electoral board.

Doguwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) received 39,732 votes, beating out his nearest challenger, Yushau Salisu Abdullahi of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), who received 34,798 votes, according to the earlier announcement by the returning officer, Professor Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai.

But Doguwa’s name was noticeably missing from the list of members-elect that was just made public.

The don from Bayero University, Kano, could be seen reading out the results with a trembling voice in a viral video of the returning officer announcing the results.

Remember that Doguwa was detained by police following electoral violence that was reported in the district after the vote due to his claimed involvement in the killing of numerous people and the burning of the NNPP secretariat, both of which the congressman fiercely denies.

The NNPP campaign secretariat in Tudunwada was set on fire, killing two people, and the police had established that at least three people had been slain.

After that, Doguwa was brought before a magistrate’s court on the allegations of murder, arson, and illegally possessing firearms. He was then remanded in custody.

However, a Federal High Court in Kano on Monday granted the troubled legislator N500 million in bail while prohibiting him from running in his district in the next governorship and state assembly elections.
