The Federal Government has released funds to cover the salaries of university staff and benefits for pensioners, aiming to address financial concerns in the education sector.

The Federal Government has allocated funds to settle unpaid salaries for members of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Federal Universities (NASU) and to provide benefits to retirees participating in the Nigerian Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Bawa Mokwa, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), confirmed that payments to NASU members have commenced, with many staff members reporting they have received their payments.

The announcement stated, “The federal government has disbursed funds to pay the withheld salaries of non-academic staff at federal universities.”

The Federal Government, as reported by the OAGF, has also disbursed funds to settle benefits for retirees who are part of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme Sector.

The OAGF announced that payments to the Non-Academic Staff of Federal Universities have begun, and many recipients have confirmed receiving them.

The OAGF reiterated the Federal Government’s dedication to the well-being of Nigerian workers and retirees.

Earlier this week, the Joint Action Committee of SSANU and NASU announced an indefinite strike due to four months of unpaid salaries, leading to disruptions across universities nationwide.
