The sale of Nigeria Air Ltd to Ethiopian Airlines has been declared null and void by the Federal High Court in Lagos on August 5.

The establishment of a national carrier, Nigeria Air, has been halted by Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa’s ruling which prevents the federal government from proceeding with the transaction.

The sale was contested by the Registered Trustees of the Airline Operators of Nigeria and five other aviation industry plaintiffs in a case brought to court.

The legal reliefs sought were aimed at preventing what they claimed was an improper transaction, and it is this which prompted the decision from the judge’s chambers.

The decision made by the court is indicative of a notable progression in the persistent legal and regulatory environment that envelops Nigeria’s aviation industry at large.

Further information will be provided shortly.
