The Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo has convicted the proprietor of Hilton Hotel, Ile-Ife, Ramon Adedoyin, and three hotel employees of conspiracy to murder and murder in the death of Timothy Adegoke, a student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).
Adedoyin was charged alongside six of his employees, Magdalene Chiefuna, Adeniyi Aderogba, Oluwole Lawrence, Oyetunde Kazeem Adebayo Kunle, and Adedeji Adesola, on 18 counts, including homicide, conspiracy, and oath of secrecy, among others.
Chief Judge of the State, Justice Adepele Ojo, absolved three defendants – Magdalene Chiefuna, Lawrence Oluwole, and Adedeji Adesola – from the counts of conspiracy to murder and murder in her ruling on Tuesday.
However, they were judged guilty of other charges in the indictment.
Adedoyin has been found guilty and sentenced for counts 1, 2, 3, 7, 9, 15, and 16.
The court ruled that the second autopsy report signed by two pathologists from Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital was invalid because “it is a report by interested parties.”
Justice Ojo established that the decedent Timothy Adegoke stayed at the Hilton hotel and made payments to the seventh defendant’s account.
“I found the first defendant (Ramon Adedoyin) guilty of murder and murder conspiracy.”
The court determined that the evidence presented to it placed Oyetunde Kazeem “squarely among those who committed the acts,” and he was deemed guilty of the charges.
Adedeji Adesola, the seventh defendant, was “carefully choreographed into the act.” The circumstantial evidence was insufficient to establish her guilt on counts 1, 2, and 3″
