JUST IN: Appeal Court dismisses Bauchi deputy speaker
Days after declaring the election of the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly to be invalid, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Jamilu Umaru Dahiru Barade was fired by the Court of Appeal, which is based in Abuja.
The three-member panel of justices overturned the ruling of the Bauchi State House of Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal, which had previously upheld Barade’s election as the legally elected representative of the Bauchi Central State constituency, in a decision that was delivered on Monday.

In light of the appellant, Aliyu Abdullahi Ilela of the All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging over voting, the court ordered a repeat of the election in a few of the constituency’s polling places.
The Deputy Speaker was given a Certificate of Return earlier in the process, and the court further ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to obtain it and hold another election in the impacted polling places before declaring a winner.
