In the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, a partially collapsed structure has been saved, saving one person.
According to reports, the event happened on Saturday in the nation’s capital’s Central Business District, next to Taj Bank.
The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) spokesman, Nkechi Isa, made this revelation in a statement. She added that the agency was notified about the fall an hour after the construction workers “unsuccessfully tried to rescue their trapped colleague to no avail.”
The reason behind the building’s partial collapse remains unknown, though.
According to her, “with the aid of extrication equipment and the construction company’s excavator, a team from FEMA and the FCT fire service was able to rescue the trapped man.”
According to the statement, “the victim was a member of the labourers who were casting the building’s first floor when the entire cast fell on him.”
The victim is still undergoing treatment at the National Hospital in Abuja, according to Isa.
Mohammed Sabo, the acting director-general of FEMA, visited the site and advised developers to always follow the building laws and standards.
He urged developers and construction firms not to utilise inferior materials or take short cuts when building.
“They should put the safety of their employees first during construction as well as the customers who will ultimately use the building—the future occupants,” Sabo continued.
