Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, announced that he was “running out of energy” and will be leaving the position at the end of the current campaign.

Klopp’s contract was set to expire in 2026 after he was appointed in October 2015.
Before guiding Liverpool to their first league championship in thirty years in 2019–20, he won the Champions League in 2019.
With his team leading the Premier League, Klopp, 56, made his announcement. “I told the club already in November,” he added.
“I can appreciate that hearing this information for the first time shocks a lot of people, but I can certainly explain it, or at least attempt to.
“I adore everything about this team, the staff, the city, our supporters, and this club in general. My favourite things are all together. I adore everything. However, the fact that I am still going with this choice indicates to you how certain I am that it is the right one.
The fact is, I’m, how shall I put it, exhausted. Naturally, I have no issues at all right now. I have known for a while that I will eventually need to make an announcement, but for now, everything is perfect. I am aware that I am unable to complete the task repeatedly.
“The respect and love I had for you grew over the years we spent together, the time we spent together, and the things we experienced together, and the truth is the least I owe you,” the speaker said.
Reaction to Klopp’s departure from Liverpool
Since the German took over as manager of the Reds, Liverpool has won every major award.
In the Champions League final in Madrid in 2019, Liverpool defeated Tottenham to win their sixth European Cup under Klopp’s leadership.
They won the Fifa Club World Cup, the Uefa Super Cup, and, most importantly, the Premier League championship the following season.
Liverpool finished 2021–22 with a domestic cup double, although they were just short of a quadruple after losing to Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Paris and being defeated by Manchester City on the last day of the Premier League season.
The Reds are in the running for four trophies this season, despite not taking home any big awards the previous one. They advanced to the Carabao Cup final on Wednesday by defeating Fulham.
It didn’t begin [then], but the previous season was undoubtedly one of the most challenging ever. There were definitely times when, at other teams, the choice would have been made to “come on, thank you very much for everything, but probably we should split here, or end it here.” Obviously, it didn’t happen here, Klopp continued.
“It was extremely essential to me that I could assist in getting this team back on track. All I could think of was that.
“I could start thinking about myself again when I realised pretty early on that it’s a really good team with massive potential and a super age group, super characters, and all that,” the statement reads. It’s just what I believe to be 100% accurate; it’s not what I wish to do.
Along with Klopp, Vitor Matos, the elite development coach, and assistant managers Pepijn Lijnders and Peter Krawietz of Liverpool will also be leaving the team.
In addition to leading the Premier League and competing in the EFL Cup final, Liverpool will play Norwich City in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday and go to the Europa League’s round of 16.
Now let’s get serious about it. Klopp stated, “The outside world wants to take advantage of this decision, laugh about it, and disturb us.
“We are Liverpool; we’ve experienced more difficult times together. You also experienced more difficult things than I did. Let’s turn it into a strength. That would be very awesome.
“Let’s make the most of this season so that we will have something else to be happy about in the future.”
With more than fifty games in charge of the team, Klopp has the highest win percentage of any Liverpool manager at 60.7%.
Additionally, he is the only manager in Liverpool history to win the FA Cup, EFL Cup, European Cup/Champions League, and league championship with the Reds.
The selection of Klopp was hailed by Mike Gordon, president of Fenway Sports Group, the owners of Liverpool, as “one of the greatest blessings of our time as owners.”
“First and foremost, I would like to state our profound appreciation for Jurgen on behalf of [FSG chairman] Tom Werner and [principal owner] John Henry,” Gordon stated.
It goes without saying that losing not just a manager of such calibre but also a person and leader for whom we have the utmost regard, appreciation, and affection will make us very sad.
“Yet, we completely honour his desires and the reasons behind his decision that this will be his final season at Liverpool.”
