Three additional bodies have been recovered by the police authorities in Anambra State following a tragic boat accident that involved a movie cast.
Among the victims was Nollywood star Junior Pope Odonwodo, who was part of the crew that drowned in the mishap two days ago.
While some crew members are still missing, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, announced that three more bodies belonging to members of the movie cast have been found. In a statement released on Friday, Ikenga stated, “The Marine Police of Anambra State Command has successfully recovered the bodies of the three remaining victims of the unfortunate boat accident involving a movie cast.
Two bodies were retrieved yesterday, April 11, 2024, while the last one was washed ashore this morning.” The recovered bodies have been taken to a morgue in Asaba, Delta State, and the actors’ guild authorities have been notified about the development.
The state’s police commissioner, Aderemi Adeoye, advised water commuters to prioritize safety during transit, and the police are currently expediting the investigation into the accident.
The tragic incident has sparked outrage among Nigerians, particularly Nollywood fans, who believe that proper safety measures could have prevented it during the filming of the movie “Another Side of Life.” In response, the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has imposed a ban on all movie shoots involving riverine areas and boat rides.
Additionally, filmmaker Adamma Luke, who was producing the ill-fated movie, has been suspended by the AGN. AGN president Emeka Rollas stated, “The guild’s leadership has made the following decisions: (1) All films involving riverine areas and boat rides are indefinitely suspended, and (2) there will be no shoots at any location nationwide on Thursday, April 11, 2024.”
(3) Indefinitely suspended is the film called ‘Another Side of Life’. (4) Until further notice, no actor is permitted to collaborate with Adamma Luke as a producer. (5) As we continue our search for the bodies of the remaining individuals, may their souls find eternal peace.
