Nigerians are enduring economic hardships, but Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has urged them to remain optimistic because their nation is “still at the baby steps of democracy.”
Abiodun asked Nigerians to back the government and its objectives while highlighting the need to be firm and have faith in the democratic process.
The charge was delivered by the governor on Wednesday at the prayers for Democracy Day Celebration, which were held in the Gbagura, Abeokuta, residence of Late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, the victor of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.
Speaking through Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Abiodun expressed how happy he was that Nigerians are commemorating 25 years of continuous democracy, which the late Abiola laid the foundation for. He also thanked the Federal Government for designating the day to celebrate democracy in Nigeria as well as honour his memory.
“We thank Allah Ta’ala for allowing democracy to flourish and for allowing us to all be here today. Even if democracy is still in its infancy and presents obstacles, everyone must cooperate to support one another and our institution if we are to succeed under the current form of government. We are aware that in the end, this will provide us with the best development, leadership, and other outcomes.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for everything that he is doing for the people of Nigeria, and I ask for all of our prayers and support in order to give him wisdom and success. In order for Allah to lead our leaders and for them to lead us correctly, we need keep praying for them.
Abiodun continued, saying that his government would uphold the late Abiola’s legacy because he was a well-known state son.
Additionally, he promised that his administration would not back down from providing Ogun State residents with the benefits of democracy.
“We would uphold and support this family in the same way that we uphold democracy throughout the state.”
Prior to Because of the roles that drugs and food play in the physical system, Mufasir Agura, Alhaji Daud Toriola, compared Abiola to these substances in his sermon. He claimed that even though Abiola is no longer with us, his influence may still be felt in the lives he affected.
Speaking on behalf of the Abiola family, Mr. Ameen Abiola thanked everyone for attending the yearly memorial service for the late MKO Abiola, highlighting the state government’s steadfast support and the recent renovations made to the family residence.
