Judge stops Gov. Fubara’s impeachment, offers the Rivers Assembly new instructions

Speaker Martins Amaewhule of the Rivers State House of Assembly and the Rivers State High Court have been temporarily ordered to refrain from taking any further action on the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The court is located in the Isiokpo Division of the Ikwerre Local Government Area.

Along with the Deputy Speaker and the Clerk of the House, the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi, is also under pressure.

As a result of the governor’s case, Justice Ben Whyte, the sitting judge, issued the directive. Meanwhile, Justice Whyte instructed the parties to preserve the status quo while the Motion on Notice was being considered.

In order to provide for a notice-based consideration of the motion, the judge continued the case to November 14, 2023.
