Judge Prevents Ayu from posing as PDP Chairman
Terhide Utaan, a PDP member from Benue, successfully got the ruling before Judge W. I. Kpochi.
Iyorchia Ayu, the beleaguered national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been prohibited from acting as the party’s chairman by a high court in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, awaiting the outcome of the substantive matter, which has been postponed to April 17, 2023 for hearing.
The injunction prohibiting Ayu from misrepresenting himself as the party’s national chairman was acquired by Terhide Utaan, a PDP member from Benue, who is the plaintiff before Judge W. I. Kpochi.
Speaking to media in Makurdi after getting the court order, the plaintiff said that it was improper for Ayu to continue holding the position of national chairman and further splinter the party after being suspended by his Igyorov Ward Exco on Sunday.
Due to anti-party activity after the party’s defeat in the presidential election, Ayu was suspended late last week.
But, in a statement released on Monday by his media assistant Simon Imobo-Tswam, the former legislator claimed that only the ward lacked the authority to suspend him.
Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State and Ayu’s political adversary in the PDP, declared on Monday that he was thrilled that the Benue State ward exco had rejected a vote of confidence in him.
I’m not from Benue State, but I’m glad, and we would want to publicly state that we support what Benue State has done.
