According to President Muhammadu Buhari, the accusations that he is one Jubril from Sudan are the creation of some Nigerians who wish to divert attention away from the serious issues confronting his administration.
In the documentary “Celebrating a Patriot, a Leader, an Elder Statesman,” President Buhari said this at a dinner in Abuja on Friday night to celebrate his 80th birthday.
The President was addressing the widespread rumor that he had passed away and that Jubril, a man from Sudan, was impersonating him.
When Buhari had just arrived in the country following a few months spent abroad receiving treatment for an unidentified illness, the rumor had already gained a lot of traction.
In the documentary, Buhari said that the rumor was the product of troublemakers who were just being “cheeky.”
The president denied finding the assertions hilarious and added that they were an attempt to divert his attention from “the main issues.”
“No. Because the individuals who made those statements were only trying to be cheeky, it’s not funny. They seek to deflect attention away from the crucial matter.
“Our biggest concern is building the infrastructure and educating people about the necessity of working hard if they want to live comfortably.” The President retorted, “They just want to enjoy life while earning the respect of their community and so forth.”
When asked what he would miss about the presidency after he leaves office in 2023, Buhari responded that he wouldn’t miss it much because he is currently the target of harassment from individuals who believe they can frighten him. He added that despite his best efforts, it appears that they are insufficient.
“I wonder how much I’ll miss.” There are those around who think they can bully the authorities to acquire what they want instead of using established processes to go and earn whatever they want to earn, according to Buhari. I suppose I am being harassed because I am trying my best, but it appears like my best is insufficient.
