Journalists Urge Gov Otu to Address Insecurity Head-On

Journalists call on Governor Otu to take decisive action against rising insecurity, emphasizing the urgent need for effective solutions.

The state’s journalists are urging Prince Bassey Otu, the governor of Cross River State, to prioritize ensuring the safety and security of residents’ lives and belongings.

At the conclusion of their meeting at their Secretariat in Calabar yesterday, Ubon Ekanem and two others signed a communique containing their call.

They praised the governor for his achievements within a year but also brought to his notice that criminal activities had resurfaced in certain areas of the state.

The security concerns expressed by residents of Idim Ita and Itonde communities in Calabar South Local Government were identified.

In light of the numerous incidences of kidnapping, rape and robbery reported in many communities, the NUJ called upon state security agencies to increase their regular patrols.

For over five years, the community of Okoyong in Odukpani Local Government has been without electricity. The journalists have highlighted this situation to the state government and brought attention to the struggles faced by its residents.

The lack of electricity in Okoyong community is believed by its inhabitants to have caused a surge in criminal activities.

The current economic difficulties were denounced for causing a surge in basic food item prices. They called upon the state government to implement measures, like price controls, that can alleviate the impact of these expenses on residents in the area.
