After a party meeting on September 23, 2023, Dung Tari, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, was kidnapped. He has been held captive for 40 days.

About 1:00 pm, Tari was in his car in Jos, taking a phone call on the Bukuru motorway when he was stopped by two Toyota Hilux cars driven by two anonymous guys, who forcibly transported him to an undisclosed location.

At a news conference, party state chairman Chris Hassan voiced his concerns over the incident and charged the military with being behind the kidnapping.

Concerns concerning the whereabouts of the kidnapped PDP leader were also voiced by Tari’s relatives.

Ezekiel Nyaku, the chairman of Berom Educational and Cultural Organisation in the Kuru District of Jos South Local Government Area, denounced the PDP chairman’s detention.

“It has been over a month and no one knows where he is,” he bemoaned. Given that he was kidnapped soon after a party meeting, we are unsure if his kidnapping had political motivations or not.

The Berom Youth Moulders’ National President, Solomon Mwantiri, announced that the organisation was trying to find the party chieftain who had been kidnapped.

Additionally, he demanded Tari’s immediate release.
