At the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu is now holding talks with former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The President greeted Jonathan when he arrived at about midday, and they then entered a private discussion.
Even though no information has come to light regarding the meeting, it is probably related to his role as the Economic Community of West African States’ Special Envoy, where he is facilitating mediation negotiations even though Mali is still governed by the military as a result of the coup that removed President Ibrahim Keita in August 2020.

In an attempt to restore civilian control, the Malian military administration declared in September 2023 that it would postpone the February 2024 presidential election.
According to government spokesman Abdoulaye Maiga, the two voting rounds that were originally scheduled for February 4 and February 18 “will be slightly postponed for technical reasons”
Maiga outlined the rationale for adding points about the ratification of a new constitution and an examination of the election lists. In addition, he brought up a disagreement with the French business Idemia, which the government claims is engaged in the census procedure.
“We’ll let you know when the new presidential election dates are,” Maiga said.
When the junta led by Asimi Goita announced its intention to hold onto power for a maximum of five years, the Economic Community of West African States placed sanctions on Mali in January 2022.
The junta agreed to conduct the election in February in response to pressure from the regional bloc.
As a result, in July 2022, the ECOWAS removed a number of financial and trade sanctions against Mali.
