Former President Goodluck Jonathan credits Yar’adua’s mother for playing a significant role in shaping his life and career.

It is technically true that Hajiya Dada Yar’Adua, mother of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua, played a significant role in shaping former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan into who he is today.

Describing her demise as a personal loss to him, Jonathan paid a condolence visit to the Yar’Adua family in Katsina on Saturday.

The ex-leader of Nigeria revealed that he had been en route to Kigali, Rwanda when he was informed of the tragic news. Upon returning to his home country on Friday, he felt it imperative to visit Katsina and offer condolences.

“This woman played a crucial role in shaping my identity.”

The passing of this woman deeply moves me. It was her son who chose me as his partner in running, and without her support, my name may not have been known. She became like a mother to me, so losing her feels akin to the loss of my own mother.

All of us are grieving during this sorrowful time. I embarked on my journey to Kigali on Monday; however, upon arriving at Adiss Ababa, our mission leader delivered the heartbreaking news.

He expressed his sincere sympathies to the Yar’Adua family and the citizens of Katsina State on behalf of himself, his team, his community, and their state.
