Peter Obi, who is running for president as a member of the Labour Party (LP), met with Goodluck Jonathan at his home in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Friday.
As of the publication of this article on Friday night, Obi and Jonathan were having a private discussion about the LP candidate’s presidential campaign for the 2023 elections.
Jonathan claims that Nigeria is deeply divided. He advised Obi that if he wins, bringing Nigeria together must be his top priority.
The former president also praised the presidential candidate for making the audacious decision to run for office outside of the two major parties in 2018. Yusuf Baba-Ahmed, Obi’s running companion, was beside him, along with party veterans.
On December 23, 2022, former President Goodluck Jonathan and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi are seen in his Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, residence.
White House pit stops
Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president, has also endorsed Obi. He met with the 85-year-old statesman on September 26.
On October 14, Obasanjo stirred up conversation once more when he was seen giving the LP candidate his place at a gathering. In the viral footage, the former president can be seen calling up Obi, who is seated at table 9, and escorting him to table 1. The audience claps in approval of the action.
Obasanjo can be heard saying, “In the presence of Nigerians,” as he moves forward to grab the former Anambra State governor’s hand. He said, “My duty is done,” after directing Obi to table 1.
The LP candidate and his running mate paid visits to General Abdulsalami Abubakar and General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, two former military leaders, in September (IBB).
The military president of Nigeria, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, GCFR, hosted me and my running mate, Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, at his residence in Minna today, which was a joy and an honor for us, Obi said on Facebook.
