Jigawa Responsible for 75% of Nigeria’s Non-Oil Export Revenue- Governor Umar Namadi
According to Mallam Umar Namadi, the governor of Igawa State, the state would account for more than 75% of Nigeria’s non-oil exports in 2023.
He said this in Dutse, the state capital, at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Jigawa State and the Nigeria-Arabian Gulf Chamber of Commerce (NAGCC).
According to him, the objective was to encourage industry and trade in Jigawa State.
As previously mentioned, 75% of Nigeria’s exports last year were from sesame and hibiscus. And I want to tell you that Jigawa is where 90% of that hibiscus and sesame comes from. Therefore, we consistently provide 75% of Nigeria’s non-oil exports, the speaker stated.
In his speech, Dr. Kassim Gidado highlighted the Nigerian Arabian Gulf Chamber of Commerce’s (NAGCC) commitment to strengthening trade relations between Jigawa State and the Gulf.

He mentioned that on October 26, 2023, the parties concerned started the process of collaborating, which resulted in the creation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Gidado emphasised Jigawa State’s enormous potential, especially in sectors like solid minerals, hibiscus, and sesame seeds.
He stated that by utilising Jigawa’s comparative advantages, the MoU seeks to promote those goods and draw capital for export-ready enterprises.
NAGCC promises to leverage its trade and regional houses located in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to achieve these goals.
