The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State has distanced itself from the Inter-Party Advisory Council’s (IPAC) decision to request an extension of the local government council election by one year.

Alhaji Sa’adu Barwa, the PDP chairman in the Dutse local government, expressed his disagreement with the IPAC decision, stating that it was not a popular idea but rather the decision of a few individuals.

The IPAC had called for an amendment to the state’s electoral law, proposing that political parties be given 360 days’ notice to prepare for elections.

However, Barwa emphasized that the tenure of any elected position is clearly stated by the law, and the Jigawa State Government Council’s tenure is set to expire in July of this year.

He urged the state Independent Electoral Commission to organize credible elections in all 27 local government areas and 287 political wards without any delay or extension.

Barwa also expressed the PDP’s confidence in winning the local government council election, citing the present sufferings and economic difficulties experienced in the state and country.

He further claimed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was afraid of losing the election.
