The Jigawa State Government revealed on Wednesday that it has invested N500 million to provide better restrooms in state-wide public areas.

The revelation was made on Wednesday in Dutse by Ibrahim Hannungiwa, the Commissioner for Water Resources.

He claimed that the government had taken aggressive steps to guarantee the continuation of its dominant status as an Open Defecation Free (ODF) state.

“A committee has been established to determine the best course of action for maintaining the ODF status. More common public restrooms would be available in public areas under the committee’s direction.

“To promote awareness of the value of utilising restrooms, the state government has made significant efforts, particularly in remote areas.

“Jigawa State is the only and first state in Nigeria to be declared open defecation free by UNICEF.”

Umar Namadi, the state governor, has also been named as an ODF ambassador by the UN Agency, according to Hannungiwa.
