Jigawa government begs husbands: allow your wife to use modern contraceptives
In order to create healthier families, the Jigawa State Government has pleaded with males who are married to women of childbearing age to grant their access to modern contraception.
On Thursday in the state secretariat, Dutse, to observe World Contraception Day 2023, State Commissioner for Health Dr. Muhammad Abdullahi Kainuwa made the plea. This year, “Power of Options” serves as the topic.
According to him, Jigawa is one of the states in Nigeria with the highest maternal mortality rates, which is related to the use of modern contraceptives being either nonexistent or very low.
According to Kainiwa, modern contraceptives are used if there is a vaccine against maternal mortality.
As we let our children to receive vaccinations against five deadly diseases, he remarked, “I see no reason why we shouldn’t allow our wives access to the immunisation.”
He said that access to prenatal and postnatal care has increased and that modern contraceptives serve to improve the health of women by lowering maternal morbidity and mortality rates.
“I am therefore urging Jigawa state citizens, especially women of childbearing age and their husbands, to ensure that they allow their wives to access their rights to build healthy families, society, and a better future,” Kainiwa stated.
According to the MIC survey 2022, Jigawa has seen a considerable increase in the prevalence of contraceptives, with a target of 10% by 2027.
In order to receive their free services, he advised women to go to any of the nearby health care providers.
