The Nigerian Hunter and Forest Security Service, or NHFSS, has requested constitutional recognition from Jigawa State Governor Abubakar Badaru.
The request was made by Badaru during the NHFSS’s four-day Annual National Security Summit in Abuja.
The governor praised NHFSS for its efforts in Jigawa’s forests to combat banditry, Boko haram, and terrorism and stated that it was vital to increase the Service’s actions there as well as nationally.
Therefore, he assured NHFSS of the support of his government as it works to fulfil its mission.
The four-day national conference, according to NHFSS Commandant General Ambassador Joshua Osatimehin, was centred on the Forest Security Service and Nigerian Hunters’ contributions to the battle against forest crimes for long-term national security.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, or NDLEA, was credited with organizing the conference, and Ambassador Osatimehin declared that the Service will continue to support the Agency’s efforts to prevent illegal use and abuse in national forests.
He also took use of the occasion to urge President Muhammadu Buhari to support the NHFSS Bill that was put before him.
The Chairman of NDLEA, Buba Marwa, praised NHFSS’ assistance in reducing the distribution of narcotics in forests in a statement and blamed drug misuse for the majority of crimes in the nation.
He promised that the Agency will work more closely with NHFSS to prevent drug usage in the nation.
The NHFSS’s actions, which include gathering intelligence and making local arrests of offenders, are essential to community policing, according to Alhaji Shehu Yamusa, the Emir of Keffi in Nasarawa State.
The summit, which was attended by officials from the nation’s main security agencies, featured several security demonstrations and the awarding of prizes to those who had helped the NHFSS advance over the years.
