Jigawa accident results in six fatalities, seven injuries by canter driver

In Jigawa State, 45-year-old Tasi’u Ashiru, a canter driver, has crushed six people to death and injured seven more.

Witnesses told Obasanjonews.com that the motorist lost control and collided with market vendors on Wednesday at Sabon Garin Takanebu, Miga LGA, along the Jahun to Gujungu Road.

Many of them perished, while others were injured to varying degrees.

DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the command’s spokesperson, verified the incident to Obasanjonews.com.

As per his statement, “On June 12, 2024, at approximately 2100hrs, a vehicle with registration number XA 519 KUR Mitsubishi Canter, driven by a 45-year-old Tasi’u Ashiru of Kara village, Ajingi LGA, Kano State, was involved in a fatal motor vehicle accident at Sabon Garin Takanebu, Miga LGA, along the Jahun to Gujungu Road.”

“When the driver lost control and crashed into marketers as they arrived at the Sabon Gari market, ten (10) people suffered various degrees of injuries and three (3) people passed away immediately.”

According to DSP Shiisu, a group of police officers arrived at the site quickly and took the injured and the dead to the Jahun General Hospital.

He continued by saying that three more people passed away while travelling to the hospital, bringing the total to six.

The attending physician pronounced the fatalities dead, while the seven survivors are presently being treated and responding to care.

After that, the bodies were given to their kin to be buried.

An inquiry is underway, and the driver has been placed under arrest.

The Commissioner of Jigawa State Police, CP AT Abdullahi, appealed to the Almighty Allah for forgiveness and eternal peace for the departed.

In addition, he begged drivers to drive defensively and with prudence, threatening to arrest and prosecute anyone found to be driving recklessly or carelessly and causing deaths.
