Newly discovered deceitful methods employed by applicants who intend to retake the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) have been recognized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The revelation was made known in JAMB’s policy document for 2024, which was signed by the Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede and unveiled during the Abuja meeting on JAMB policies.
In the past, candidates used to provide bogus medical reports in order to justify their absence from exams. But now, Oloyede has disclosed that a new strategy entails falsely alleging abduction as an excuse for not taking the test.

According to Oloyede, a prevalent falsehood among candidates who missed their exams is claiming they were kidnapped. He observed that certain pupils would invent abduction tales in anticipation of unfavorable results.
Moreover, certain guardians are involved in these falsehoods. Oloyede shared an anecdote of a father who asserted that his son had been abducted in Wuse, Abuja but eventually managed to break free and arrive at the testing site tardy.
The disclosed information emphasizes the persistent difficulties that JAMB encounters in upholding the authenticity of UTME proceedings.
