Adeola Saheed, a teenager, was given a six-month prison sentence by an Abeokuta Magistrates Court on Friday for trying to rape a 35-year-old lady.

The 19-year-old defendant, who lives in Abeokuta’s Brewery neighbourhood, was charged with indecent assault, conspiracy, and attempted rape.

The prosecution has demonstrated beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant was guilty as accused, according to the magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Odumosu.

For each of the three charges, she sentenced Saheed to six months in prison, with an additional N300,000 in fines.

But according to her, the jail sentence ought to run consecutively

The prosecution, ASP Olakunle Shonibare, had earlier in the trial informed the court that the defendant had committed the crime at Olomore Housing Estate in Abeokuta on October 12, 2023, at around 12:30 p.m.

According to Shonibare, the defendants planned to conduct the crime with one another while they were still at large.

He clarified that while posing as a thief, the defendant broke into the complainant’s compound with a board and a screwdriver.

“When he arrived at the complex, he observed the complainant doing laundry in front of her home and inquired as to whether she was the only person there or if anyone else had broken into her compound.

In response to the prisoner, the complainant stated that she was the only person in the compound and that she had not saw any thieves enter it.

The prisoner assaulted her as soon as she tried to call her spouse on her phone.

He claimed, “The convict tried to rape her right away, attacking her with the plank he was holding, holding her neck, and ripping her clothes. Thankfully, the complainant’s husband saved her.”

Sections 516, 360, and 359 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006, were broken by the offence.
