Alex Iwobi, a midfielder for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, looked like he had a serious knee injury when Manchester United beat his team, Everton, 3-1 on Friday at Old Trafford.
After a few minutes of useless physiotherapy, the Nigerian international midfielder was carried off on a stretcher early in the second half.
In the fourth minute, Antony gave Manchester United the lead before Connor Coady tied the score for Everton ten minutes later.
Before Coady scored an own goal, however, Marcus Rashford’s penalty gave them the win and got rid of the struggling English Premier League (EPL) team.
Iwobi got hurt two minutes into the second half when he jumped on a bad pass from Casemiro and ran forward until he was tackled by Tyrell Malacia. Iwobi used to play for Arsenal.
Iwobi, though, twisted his right ankle during the tackle and collapsed to the ground in pain.
Abdoulaye Dacoure, who might be out for weeks or months with an injury, took the place of the 25-year-old who was feeling better.
Iwobi has been a key player for Everton this season, appearing in 21 games and contributing one goal and six assists.
