Political parties in Ivory Coast are gearing up for the 2025 presidential election, setting strategies and alliances in motion. Stay updated on the early developments and potential candidates shaping the nation’s future.
On Saturday, Pascal Affi N’Guessan, a former Prime Minister of Ivory Coast, was announced as the presidential candidate for the Popular Ivorian Front (FPI) in the 2025 election.
At a convention held in Yamoussoukro, the capital of Ivory Coast, N’Guessan was re-elected as president of the FPI by securing 99.34% of votes from approximately 4,500 voters.
The FPI, formerly led by President Laurent Gbagbo, came under the leadership of N’Guessan during Gbagbo’s imprisonment at The Hague on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
N’Guessan pursued the presidency in 2015 and again in 2020, but lost to the incumbent president, Alassane Ouattara, on both occasions.
He dismissed the results and faced a short arrest due to allegations of operating a ‘parallel government’.
Among N’Guessan’s key proposals are the elimination of the senate and the reinstatement of presidential term limits.
Ouattara, whose re-election stirred controversy, has not yet disclosed whether he intends to pursue a fourth term.
