Ivory Coast Election: Ouattara and Gbagbo May Face Off in Potential Meeting
In the lead-up to Ivory Coast’s election, there is a possibility of a significant meeting between President Alassane Ouattara and former President Laurent Gbagbo.
Preparations are being made in anticipation of Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara and his predecessor, Laurent Gbagbo – now the leader of the African People’s Party – potentially meeting.
It has been years since the two leaders last met in 2022, and their communication ceased months ago. However, several emissaries are currently striving to arrange a meeting between them that may take place shortly.
Sources reveal that a preliminary telephonic discussion between the duo is anticipated to occur in the upcoming days.
The presidential election in Ivory Coast is scheduled to take place in October of 2025.
A press conference was held by various opposing leaders who called for electoral reforms and an encompassing political discussion prior to the upcoming presidential election.
The coalition has demanded an extension of the review period for the electoral register beyond September 30 to October 31, which was deemed insufficient by The Independent Electoral Commission. They have proposed a date as far ahead in time as July 2025.
