Nigerians’ 2015 election pledges, according to President Muhammadu Buhari, have been fulfilled by his administration.

Buhari said he had succeeded in the areas of the economy, insecurity, and the fight against corruption when he addressed on Saturday at the 7th convocation ceremony of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

At the ceremonies, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), Chairman of the Nigerian Body of Benchers, Bisi Onasanya, a former managing director of First Bank, and Segun Odegbami, a former captain of the Super Eagles, received honorary degrees in recognition of their contributions to the advancement of the country.

He remarked that he was pleased that significant progress had been made in the three key areas of his campaign platform, which were strengthening the economy, ensuring security, and combating corruption.

Farooq Kperogi: Buhari is setting Nigeria on fire in order to capture a bat.

The current administration, he claimed, had put Nigeria on unstoppable routes to greatness by enacting policies that were people-centric, even though the nation had not yet reached its eldorado.

“Let me remind us all that my campaign for president in 2015 was founded on the commitment to improve security, support the economy, and fight corruption,” he stated. I humbly declare that we have kept the three vows out of profound thankfulness to Almighty Allah.

“At the time of my inauguration, the nation was essentially under a terrorism and various types of insecurity siege. I declare resolutely that the fight against terrorism has been won, having resulted in the regaining of all the areas that these organisations had taken over. And terrorism in Nigeria is currently on its deathbed.

“It is also significant that Nigeria emerged from the murky waters of impending economic collapse under my leadership to be recognised as the continent of Africa’s largest economy. It takes a lot of effort to accomplish this. Not necessarily. It can only be the end product of a carefully planned developmental strategy.

“Before I took office in 2015, corruption had the nation by the throat. Another well-known reality is that my administration’s initiatives, such as the implementation of the TSA, the whistleblower policy, and the stepping up of anti-corruption agency prosecutions, have helped to reverse the trend of corruption in the nation.

He continued by saying that, in addition to the three key sectors, his administration has improved education through increased spending for human capital and infrastructure development.

It is known to the public that, since taking office on May 29, 2015, my administration has gradually increased funding to the sector in its annual budgets, despite the fact that it is impossible to direct all of the country’s resources towards the education sector.

In his remarks, Vice Chancellor Prof. Abayomi Fasina said that the institution had established a place for itself on the global grid of academic achievement in the shortest amount of time since its founding.

Fasina gave the graduates his congratulations on their academic achievements and cautioned them to continue being excellent representatives of the university and projecting a favourable picture of it.
