I’ve Been Running for President Longer Than Peter Obi, Says Sowore

Omoyele Sowore asserts that his presidential ambitions predate Peter Obi’s rise in politics, emphasizing his long-standing commitment to leading Nigeria.

Omoyele Sowore, the former presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC), has explained why he is unable to form a coalition with Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate.

He claimed that Obi is not unlike other corrupt politicians, emphasizing that he’s simply more skilled at “packaging.”

Sowore stated that he had been running for the presidency well before Obi became widely recognized.

In a recent episode of the Honest Bunch Podcast, he mentioned, “I was already running for President before you even heard about Peter Obi. All this hype surrounding him… He just knows how to present himself well. Anyone can do it.”

Joining forces with Peter Obi would contradict my long-held principle of never supporting a Nigerian leader who has previously held political office and whom I regard as non-performing.

It’s the same reason I would never have teamed up with Atiku. Also, Peter Obi, whom you mention, was Atiku’s Vice Presidential candidate when I ran for president in 2019.

“What are we discussing here? In my view, there’s no such thing as a lesser evil. Evil is simply evil, and good remains good. I generally have little tolerance for underperformance.”
