An air task force unit in the Lake Chad area has assassinated Muhammed Malik, a senior commander of the Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP).
Malik passed away on November 29 as a result of the deadly wounds he received during the attack, according to Zagazola Makama, a journal that focuses on the Lake Chad area.
On November 24, Nigerian forces allegedly started a synchronized intelligence-driven aerial and ground operation to strike the jihadist group’s position in the Sabon Tumbun region of Lake Chad.
Numerous combatants are alleged to have died as a result of this raid.
Before enrolling in an ISIS-sponsored training in computer engineering and the creation of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Somalia, Malik is alleged to have been a member of the Shura Council in Marte.
He reportedly organized IED training groups after his return, where fighters received instruction in using explosives in attacks.
The Nigerian military has scored a string of victories in recent months against insurgency in the region around Lake Chad and other northern states.
