ISWAP Terrorists Launch Deadly Attack on Military Post in Borno

Suspected ISWAP militants have carried out a deadly assault on a military post in Borno, escalating tensions in Nigeria’s fight against insurgency. Casualties are yet to be confirmed.
Suspected terrorists from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) launched a lethal overnight attack on a military outpost in Diffa, Borno State. This assault forced troops to withdraw and allowed attackers to penetrate into a densely populated area, according to local sources.
As detailed in a report by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the assault commenced around midnight between February 14 and 15. The terrorists employed automatic weapons to overwhelm the security forces.
Under heavy gunfire, the troops retreated, which allowed the attackers temporary access to enter the heavily populated Festival Quarter district.
Prior to their retreat, the attackers allegedly looted supplies, with unconfirmed images of stolen items appearing online.
There has not yet been an official response from the authorities.
