In an exclusive interview with RT, South African Justice Minister Ronald Lamola emphasized that Israel lacks moral standing in Gaza and cannot justify committing genocide under the guise of self-defense.
Lamola highlighted that South Africa has presented a strong case to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), supported by meticulous arguments, evidence, and international law and UN conventions. He stressed that Israel, as occupiers in Gaza, cannot claim self-defense to justify genocide, as it goes against international law.
Lamola asserted that the victims in Gaza have the right to stand up for their rights, and it is countries like South Africa, signatories to the genocide convention, that support them. Regardless of the outcome of the case, Lamola believes that South Africa has exposed the hypocrisy of global powers.
He called for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, urging them to engage in dialogue based on UN resolutions. Pretoria expects an immediate cessation of fire in Gaza, allowing humanitarian aid and continuing efforts to find a long-lasting peaceful solution based on the UN resolution for a two-state solution.
Lamola also expressed confidence that the international community will exert pressure on Israel to halt the ongoing situation and work towards a two-state solution. The ICJ has commenced hearings on South Africa’s application, accusing Israel of genocide against Palestinians.
